Can A Motorcycle Cop Take Down Your License Plate Number While Youre On The Freeway And Ticket You?

A police officer On a motorcycle pulled up next to me while I was on the freeway and told me I had two traffic violations and to take the next exit and he would meet me there. He then sped off ahead of me and i lost view of him. We were about a mile away from the closest exit. I exited but he wasn't there so I left. He didn't write and actual ticket and I didn't sign anything. He also doesnt have any information of my drivers license. Can I still get a ticket if he had my license plate?

Sure. Why would you think they couldn't? A lot of the bigger cities use motorcycle cops on the freeways rather than cars. They are still police, no matter what they ride or drive.   TurboB 28 months ago

Oh, I'm sorry - I didn't. This whole thing sounds a bit odd, to me. What was he going to give you a ticket for, if the first thing he said was that you had two violations?He can get your personal information and write a ticket simply from having your plate number, but I doubt this would stand up in court.   TurboB 28 months ago

if the carpool violation is charged against the car; then the license plate is enough to issue the citation; the same as a parking ticket. we don't have carpool lanes where I live, so I couldn't say if that is the case, or not.   TheLightWorks 28 months ago

doubtful. on occasion something more important will come up and a policeman will abandon a minor traffic stop to take care of it. - the odd behavior is not either pulling you over then and there, or following you to the exit.   TheLightWorks 28 months ago

I would say you got away this time!! LOL He doesn't need any info from your driver's license... in fact he can query his system at the Dept or maybe on his bike and get that easy enough. In fact, if he say you commit a crime all he really needs to make a clear identification is your license plate(a unique identifier).Looks like an old message... 2 months. I bet you haven't heard anything... right? The cop really did lose his window of opportunity for a ticket when he didn't show and didn't get to present you with what you did wrong and give you the ticket, etc.   JayD 25 months ago

(but from your license plate, they can get the drivers license information of the registered owner and compare it to the person seen driving; if they want to. - which means if it is your car; then he probably already knew your drivers license information.)   TheLightWorks 28 months ago
