Can Bluetooth And Wi-fi (802.11a/b/g) Co-exist?

Postby Ataiah » Wed Jan 22, 2014 6:02 am

Bluetooth uses the same frequency band as 802.11b/g. I have a Bluetooth mouse and an 802.11g network, and the mouse sometimes gets laggy when I'm transferring a lot of data, but for the most part there are no problems. Bluetooth hops around from one frequency to another, so you only get interference when they both happen to be using the same frequency. If you're concerned about interference, you could try switching to 802.11a if your equipment supports it. It uses the 5 GHz band instead of 2.4 GHz, so it won't interfere with Bluetooth. You also won't get interference from your neighbors' networks(since most people use b/g) or from microwave ovens. 802.11a runs at the same speed as 802.11g but has slightly less range.

Can Bluetooth And Wi-fi (802.11a/b/g) Co-exist?

Under some circumstances Wi-fi can interfere with your cordless phone, and vice-versa, but it seems to work happily along with BlueTooth.
