Can employers see my driving record before age 18?

Postby joachim » Sat Jul 28, 2012 11:17 pm

Ive applied for a job that taps into criminal justice, im in the process of backround checks etc. I have no criminal offenses, my driving record however is another thing. Before i was 18 i had two speeding tickets about two years apart, then about 5 months before i turned 18 i had my license revoked. Since ive turned 18 ive only had two tickets one of them being only a seatbelt. This job is not one where i am constantly driving its only here and there, but would they still consider hiring me? I know that for criminal offenses that starts at 18, is it the same with driving record? Or can they see offenses before i was 18? Thanks.

They will be able to access your entire DMV record. If your driving record is too bad, the companies insurance company will not want to insure you for driving a company vehicle. This could affect your heritability. Good Luck

Traffic related offenses are not hidden because you were under 18. When you are allowed to drive a vehicle, the law is giving you an adult responsibility - and the adult consequences will be that your driving record cannot be sealed or expunged.

If there is ANY driving associated with this job, you should not and will not pass the background check. Your parents did you a huge disservice by not taking your driving privileges away from you after your first ticket . . . but to allow you enough freedom to get your license suspended is something that will probably hurt you forever . . . especially considering you are STILL getting tickets.

They can see your entire history.

You won't be getting any job driving a vehicle for a company, because you keep getting tickets.

Many companies will not hire you to operate any of their motor vehicles if you have had a moving violation ticket within the past 12 months.

They can see your driving record. They would probably consider hiring you. It may depend on what their options are. If they can find someone with a significantly better record, they may choose to hire that person. However, since there are apparently other job duties, other factors may be more important than your driving record.
