Can I be evicted by a fellow tenant in Maryland?

Postby matchitisiw » Sun Feb 26, 2012 6:06 pm

My grandparents own the house I am living in. My father pays rent to them and does not own the house. I am 19, a student, and claimed as dependent on his taxes. I do not pay rent. Can he legally kick me out, or do my landlords have to? What laws pertain to my situation?

The fact that your grandparents are the landlords has nothing to do with anything. Your father rents a house and allows you to live there. You are an adult child and he has no responsibility to house you. This isn't an eviction situation it is a parenting issue.

Legally, no. He has no legal connection with owning the property.

yes he can. he is subletting to you and he has an agreement with his parents the landlord. if he sublets he is still responsible for the home. he can kick you out with a 30 day notice.

EDT; the first answer is dead wrong. know what you are talking about before you post incorrect information.
