Can I earn as a web administrator in US if I don't have a work permit?

I've been using Joomla to maintain some of my cooking, home decoration and other such sites. I usually get emails from visitors offering me to pay for website development and maintenance. But I'm a student in US and don't have a work permit.
Can I earn online like that without violating any laws? What if I choose clients that are not from US?

Your in BIG trouble if you do that, and if your caught it will be an instant deportation.
