I guess I should say "May I" for proper English(after all I am studying to become a writer.) But you get the idea.Last week I drove 100+ miles for a book signing for a very, famous mystery author who I will not name. He is personally one of my idles as an up and coming writer. When I got to him what I said was "Your very handsome for an author!" And he kind-of thanked me and signed my book. I couldn't read exactly what he wrote but I was happy to have this brief encounter. When I got it home my husband and I studied it and it looks like it says "You look OK for a h*nky :)" From what I know h*nky is a very racially sensitive word for my race and I felt both shocked and outraged at once simultaneously. It was so distressing that I am now persuing charges against my once-idle for racial damages. I just have two things I am worried about that it might not work. #1 is because he put the emotion of a smiley face after the word. I fear it could be taken as a "good ribbing" when its not.
