Can I take any legal actions against my manager?

Postby bernd » Wed Nov 23, 2011 10:09 am

Ok, so here's the full story.

I work at a retail store that sells drugstore brand makeup. I am a makeup lover & my dream is to become a makeup artist, but (not to sound snobby or anything) I don't even wear drugstore makeup; I wear high end brands like MAC, Nars, Lancome, etc. They found empty makeup packaging in the trash at my work & one of the managers asked me if I had thrown it out, to which I responded no because I really didn't throw it out. A few days later, a man that works at the shop next door came in to buy a few things & he pulled me aside & said to me, "I'm just giving you a heads up, someone told our manager that you've been stealing makeup from your store." My manager dates their manager, so I KNOW it had to be her. I'm so angry! I'm one of their longest & most loyal employees there, and I'm pretty sure they blamed me just because I wear more makeup than everyone else. I didn't steal anything, & even if I were to actually do it, its absolutely none of the other stores' business! It just gets me so mad because my manager is so crooked, its ridiculous. She used to steal money from our store safe & never got caught when they investigated her, and she treats us all like sh*t. & I started working there 2 yrs before I turned 18, so even when I was underage I NEVER got breaks during work. & we caught her about to have sex with her boyfriend outside in the car during work hours, but we can't prove it to anyone else. She's almost 50 yrs old; so unprofessional.

I'm going to be quitting very, very soon because this is the last straw for me.

But my final question is: are there any possible legal actions I can take against her? Perhaps slander for telling other stores that I stole, when I didn't?

Amanda, when you fight someone, you choose to use ALL your energy to do it.

What good could possibly come to you from that? A couple hundred bucks for hundreds of hours of work?

Not to mention that you would NEVER be able to use your job as a reference. Companies being sued don't give out favorable references.

Use your rage for something productive. Like finding a new job before you give notice and leave this one. Do yourself a favor and try to get a written letter of recommendation from ANY other manager.

Good luck.

I think you can file slander on them because that's making a mis accusation.

You have no grounds for legal action.

So let me get this straight: you want to 'take legal action' against your manager -- who has not accused you of anything -- because someone who works at a different store told you an unsubstantiated rumor about another manager in the other store.

Yeah, I'm sure you'll win a million dollars.
