" Policy in the Czech Republic is in many respects less restrictive than elsewhere in Europe (see Gun politics in the European Union). The most recent Gun Act was passed in 2001, replacing the previous law and tightening the legislation slightly. Firearms in the Czech Republic are available to anybody without a criminal record and aged above 18 (or 21 for certain license categories). Self-defense is an acceptable justification to obtain a firearms license. The Czech gun laws also permits a citizen to carry a concealed weapon without having to specify a reason."

As always, wikipedia doesn't give all the facts.

Facts:
1) All gun purchase in the Czech Republic requires 1 of 5 types of license, but there are additional permits that is required depending on the type of firearms. For example, full-auto requires a separate permit which are issued by the local police department and it is very hard to get. A separate permit is also needed for all semi-auto handguns, rifles, and shotgun, although it is easier to get than the full-auto permit.

2) Except for airsoft, percussion, and black-powder guns, ALL guns must be registered.

3) Hollow points handgun ammo are not allowed. AP and HE ammo for long guns are illegal to civilians.

Quite frankly, I would not want to live in a Czech city where the only ammo allowed for self-defense are all FMJ.
