Can you patent a new dog breed that you bred? for example, what if i took dogs from around the world and bred them to has a new trait that is helpful in shepparding? or that i bred out a common disability like hip problems?

Yes, you can patent a dog breed. There is nothing wrong with creating a new breed. It would be great if you could breed out hip dysplasia, although there are a lot of factors other than genetics that determine if a dog will develop hip dysplasia.
