Charles darwin, a deism? related to the natural selection?

Postby ring » Sun Jul 22, 2012 9:20 am

when i was reading the passage( by the way, i am non native speaker of english)

so, i was wondering if i understood the content correctly.

the part that i read as follows.

i cannot the believe that a false theory would explain, as it seems to me that the theory of natural selection does explain, the several larage classes of facts above specified. i see no good reason why the views given in this volume should shock the religious feelings of any one. a celerbrated author and divine has written to me that "he has gradullay learnt to see that it is just as noble a conception of Deity to belive that He created a few original forms capable of self-development into other and needful forsm, as to believe that He required a fresh act of creation to supply the voids caused by the action of his laws.

these are the part of the reading content.

the reading comprehesion question was - the idea is in the passage most closely resembles the idea of atheist -wrong. and the correct interpretion by considering above was charles dawrin is Deism.

i want to know that the reason why he is deism. he, basically, believe that the god created a few orignial forms and let them to self-evolve or self- modify by the long period of the time?

i am wondering whether my interpretaton about the passge is right, when we just consider this reading part only.

if you have any good ideas, i really appreciate to understand the content fully.

thank you so much.

In Deism, the Creator is more the Prime Mover (an Aristotelian concept) that sets the universe in motion along rules (physical forces), than a personal deity taking an interest in and tinkering with nature on a regular basis. In evolution, life develops in accordance to the rules of the universe.
