Child Support question, I live in Ohio, can you help?

Postby golding » Sun Jul 29, 2012 1:36 pm

Ok so here is my question please don't answer this or even attempt to unless you live in Ohio or have knowledge in Ohio child support laws, well here is my question my kids dad walked out on them over a year ago and is now $6,525 behind on child support he didn't even file his taxes last year because he figured he wasn't going to get that money anyway. I want to know how far behind he has to be before
he can lose his license and/or go to jail? I have searched it online with no luck, though I have read that in some states the mother has to request it or file some kind of paper work and contact someone?? something like that what are the laws on that in Ohio? and if I have to file something or contact someone..what? who? and how do I go about doing it? also is it going to cost me to do this? I know its a lot of questions and im really sorry but the only days I have off are sat and sunday through out the week I work 2 jobs (thanks to deadbeat not paying child support) so I have no time to contact the child support office. If you can answer these questions or at least a few that would be greatly appreciated..thanks so much everyone have a great day!
**oh not sure if the law is the same throughout all of Ohio, but in case its not the support order is through Butler county again thanks so much in advance

Listen, you won't get any official answers here. All you will get is opinions, and in my opinion, you need to talk to an attorney who specializes in divorce. That person will help you more than anyone on here.

If he loses his license and goes to jail, you definitely won't get any child support. You do realize that the affects of your actions will turn him into a bum?

Maybe you should give him more time and let him pay less for awhile and warn him what will happen if he doesn't pay at all. I don't think he wants to become a bum, but he probably needs some time (and some feeling of hope) If he loses all hope in being able to keep up payments of course he will stop paying.

The Law is the same in most all States...child obligors have to pay support and yes they can lose privilages. However it is up to YOU to go to court and bring a suit against him and it is also YOU who have to serve him papers and ensure via certified mail that he and Not anyone else got that court document. And you can not expect anything to happen if YOUR not willing to do something about it...and No Court is open on saturadys and Sundays to fit your schedule.

And if he worked and failed to file taxes the IRS will catch up with him...go to your Local State Department of Human Services and get in touch there with Child services who can and will do most of the searching for you and ensure if there is a Child support order by the court in place it will be enforced.BUT It is upto to YOU to do it on their schedule , Not Yours !!!

and NO I do not live in Ohio , but again Most ALL state laws are the same concerning Child support......Ohio is not exclusive, so get over it
