As Christians I think most of us can relate to the arguments and position of atheists. But I was curious as to whether anyone has ever rebuked an atheist concerning what I have written below:
Unlike a Muslim country where Muslims will behead you for criticizing the Koran, in the Western world atheists have the right to slander the Bible. I believe 100% that atheists should have the right to believe what they want and to express their opinions. But the major problem I have with atheists is not the fact that they don't believe in God or the Bible, the problem I have is that atheists will deliberately lie and misrepresent what the Bible teaches. I don't have a problem with people not believing in God, but I do have a problem with people who deliberately distort and misrepresent what the Bible teaches. Let me elaborate:
I could give countless examples of how atheists distort the Bible, but I'm not going to waste my time writing a huge list. But to keep it short, atheists will either claim that the Bible says something that it doesn't, or they rip verses out of context. Let me give you just one example:
Atheists are famous for cherry picking verses from the Old Testament--the parts where God had nations of people put to death. They will take bits and pieces from different chapters that contain violence and use it to argue that the Bible is immoral. However, they don't tell the other side of the story. Here it is:
One thing they won't tell you is that these nations that God had destroyed consisted of wicked people who were given many years to repent. If they bothered to read the whole chapters, they would know that these people were practicing abhorrent evil. Not only that, but in Ezekiel, God says that He has no pleasure in the death of the wicked and that His desire is for the wicked to turn from their evil ways and live (Ezekiel 18:23). But how often do you hear an atheist telling this side of the story? Never!
This is just one of numerous examples. No matter how much atheists deny it, I know 100% from experience that atheists deliberately misrepresent the context of the Bible and say things that are just not true. This actually strengthens my faith, because if atheists were seeking the truth, why would they need to use lies and distortion?
Like I've said, I have no problem with atheists not believing in God, but to deliberately lie and misrepresent what Christians believe is unacceptable. One reason why many people reject the Bible is because of all the lies they have been told. The Bible does condemn unbelievers, but to deliberately lie about God's word in order to stop other people believing is very serious. Not something that should be taken lightly.
