Civil War, how come the Confederate Army FAILED in protecting their slaves?

Postby ern » Fri Jun 15, 2012 8:49 pm

At the last months of the Civil War, as the South was running out of white men they started training and arming selected slaves to fight for them. It was essentially an admission of the failure of their culture and heritage of abuse.

Your last paragraph shows you have an unrealistic, romantic idea of life on the plantation. And it disqualifies you from any sober account of Southern Heritage of slavery.

Your comment about the "Union forced the Blacks to go and get themselves killed" ignores that the same is true for any soldier regardless of race and shows clearly your racist attitude prevents you from seeing anything clearly.

Someone failed history lol.

Not a great time for civil rights surely, but saying one side was more or less against "Black Slaves" during the civil war is counter productive.

Really the south losing had more to do with shoddy infrastructure, no standard rail system, lack of production facilities and lower population. Since you like to get history from the movies watch roots and tell me that is better.

Maybe because slavery was only one of the factors in the civil war ant not even close to all of them?

I love your last paragraph lol.

You make a fair point in your question though.

I always thought it was a shame the south didn't win. Besides, I always thought the south had the right to secede. The north started an unconstitutional war over that...

Anyway, sorry I can't answer your question but I appreciated reading it.

So what you're saying is that blacks were willing to fight for the evil Union army, but not the DemoKKKrats in the Confederacy?

Gee, I wonder why....

The slaves were freed in order to crush the South economically, otherwise they would have been granted full citizen rights right away.

The south lost the war because their supply lines were cut

it's ok with me if you defend slavery -- as long as you volunteer for the experience as a slave and take all your offspring with you. Recruits now wanted in places like Sudan. Arabic will be taught with a whip to help you learn.

The slaves that fought for the Union were promised freedom, and land, if they fought for the Union, so they gladly volunteered. Yes, they were in segregated units, and yes, they were the tip of the spear in many cases. But the reason why they were glad to fight was because they were fighting their oppressors. This was their Revolutionary War.

Your last paragraph is rather insulting to the lives of Black slaves. They may have been on the plantation, but unless you were a house slave, you lived in complete squallor.
