Consumer Question: All answers appreciated?

Postby hampton83 » Wed Nov 30, 2011 12:16 am

I bought a computer from Dick Smith Electronics in Dubbo near where I live about two months ago, it has a problem, I will not go into it here is it is unimportant, I specifically asked if it did certain things before I bought it and was assured it did, so right off the bat it was sold on false advertisement, I called the next day to explain and they told me it was normal, I planned to return it but was again told it was normal and having had no experience with Windows 7 thought it may be true, Only a few days ago I was talking to a friend of mine for the first time in ages and I told him of the problem and he informed my it was NOT normal at all, I then got two separate opinions from computer experts who told me the same thing, it is NOT normal,

Anyway I want to know what my options are, It was sold to me under false pretenses and I was stopped from returning it under false pretenses, I don't want them to send it back to the manufacturer as first off I now don't trust Dick Smith Electronics after being lied to twice by two separate sales staff and secondly if they send it away and it comes back but with the same problem I will not accept it and they may send it away again and a whole cycle could start,

If they offer a replacement I have no way of knowing if it will have the same problem, I'm a sole carer of my father and I paid just under $900 for it, that is a lot of money for me and I cant just take it as a loss, it took a personal loan and a long time of saving to get even that much,

A friend recommended taking it to the Department of Fair Trading but I don't know if any good would come of that,

Anyone who could tell me what my options are would be greatly appreciated.

If your PC is a reputable brand (HP, Dell, etc.) then it is under warranty by the manufacturer and they have very good support to help you resolve your problem.
You don't tell us whether it is a hardware problem or a software problem. In any case, it is under warranty.

Most stores will accept returns if you have it less than 30 days, but maybe Dick smith will accept a return, just ask them. Otherwise, warranty repair will be.
