Cop wrote that I was going 45mph in a 50mph zone?

Postby drystan » Thu Aug 02, 2012 12:48 pm

I got a speeding ticket for going 50 in a 45, but on the actual ticket the cop wrote it backwards. Am I going to have to go through any extra stuff to get that corrected or will the courthouse just over look it and let me pay it? Or maybe they will through it out all together? Haha probably not.

You should get something from the court. Wait for it.

Go to court and ask for a conference with the DA. See if he will throw it out, or amend it, or make a deal for a lower fine or no points or something.

I would suggest calling your local courthouse. They would provide the best answer. I know that in my home town, if you show up to court, 99% of the time, they'll either reduce the fine or drop it altogether just because you showed up. How expensive the ticket is, vice how much you pay (or lose, from missing work) to show up, might be a bigger factor though.

I would NOT mention it until I go to court. Fight the ticket. If the cop made a mistake on paper, he could have made an intentional mistake clocking your speed.
