Could I have ADD (your opinion)?

Postby choviohoya » Wed Jul 25, 2012 12:18 am

I'm looking for people's points of views if I may had ADD or not. It is something I have wondered for a few years, however it doesn't seem as bad as it used to but still causes a lot of frustration. Tomorrow I have an appointment about this mental health thing and could mention ADD if any of you think I might have it or not. Here is why:

I've been known to daydream a lot. Not like most people; in primary school, I almost never payed attention in class and got really low grades. I had good grades in maths but all of a sudden went backwards and became terrible at it. This result me into having to catch up near the end of my years at high school to be able to pass my maths in the exams, luckily I did. I did terrible in subjects I found boring and ended up daydreaming instead of paying attention. So I had to retake my english in college. Subjects we had to take from years 7-9 such as history and dance, I always the lowest grades in the class. Not because I'm stupid, it's because I couldn't pay attention in class and almost always forgot to do the homework.

This leads onto how I can be very disorganized. I have had a report card twice in year 7 and 8 because I would almost never complete my homework, have a pen/pencil/ruler, and planner in school. My memory isn't that great because some things I find impossible to remember such has having the planner signed by one of my parents. I would also lose pens, paper of work, and sometimes forgot to bring my lunch to school.

I can only pay attention to things I am interested in. I never read books because I get bored after a page or two and in conversations online I can sometimes read briefly what someone said and completely misunderstand what they were saying. In conversations I forget or get confused what the person is talking about because i'm not really listening to what they are saying in person. I don't intend to be rude, my mind just ends up wandering about random things on my mind. My mind can be very crowded with thoughts that it's hard to think what to think and can make me forget things I really need to remember. I am very easily distracted so I end up changing the topic every 5 seconds and sometimes get back to the previous topic which then confuses the person I was talking to.

When I find myself in a situation where i need to figure out something, I end up giving up quite quickly for example in an animation I made, I suddenly gave it a break. Normally I get my animations done within a month, but with this one (which i didn't find interesting) took me 6 months to make because I just couldn't be motivated enough to continue my animation.

Sometimes I find myself unable to stay in one place so I start moving around the house, either skipping or running up the stairs and back down again. Also I sometimes move my feet as if I was listening to music when i'm not.

Last thing to add. What I really hate is how sometimes I can be impulsive. Taking actions without thinking and then regretting them and I sometimes say things without thinking making me sound like a horrible person.

Sorry for the long explanation but I hope I explained it clear enough.
