Criminal justice question...?

Postby adare » Wed Nov 30, 2011 4:10 pm

I have to write a 2 page paper on this. i just need some ideas and some brief explanation of this. thank you:)

How do you think law enforcement professionals can respond positively to the special needs of a multicultural community, especially after the events of 9/11? What are these special needs - and how can professionals respond to them? Terrorist threats, for example, have come from other cultures, and so how can officers deal with this through constructive action?

Criminal justice question...?

I tend to agree with John U. It sounds like whiny, namby-pamby liberal hog wash. I have been a Police officer since the early 70s. I have seen all sorts of domestic evil as well as the new threat to our security posed by terrorists.

Bad guys are bad guys, whether they are native born Right Wing loon balls like Timothy McVeigh or Middle Eastern maniacs like Omar Abdel Rahman. The best constructive action that the police can take is to treat everyone equally, and lock up bad white American guys just the same as bad Saudi Arabian guys (or African American guys, or Mexican guys etc.).

There is no need to suck up to any particular group. All people are created equal. That means they also have to obey laws the same. The needs of my grandparents "multicultural" community in the early 1900s produced generations that fought two World Wars and built the most successful economy in the world. No one sucked up to the Micks and Wops and Hunkies who are my ancestors. And yes, people called them those nasty names. But that didn't make them blow up buildings. They learned English, worked hard and learned to live with each other as fellow AMERICANS. There is no need for me to be any more sensitive to new immigrants than there was for anyone to be sensitive to them.

Constructive action? Treat ALL people fairly and honestly. Follow the law. Take no crap from criminals and low lifes. Be compassionate for people who are in need. Tough, fair, honest and truthful police work is all that is needed. And that leaves no room for ANY SPECIAL INTEREST.

Criminal justice question...?

One of the greatest positive impacts our depart currently has is the citizens police academy. It is a program available for members of the public to attend. It is for everyone not just a specific culture. It gives the attendees an in depth look at what services the police actually provide out side of the officer in a patrol car everyone sees. Dive teams, SWAT teams, search and rescue, boat police, and accident reconstruction are just a few of the things they get to see. They also get to do scenarios in which they have to make quick life or death situations and use of force which are some of the most enlightening.

Most education institutions are extremely liberally biased so this can easily be misunderstood. Other cultures need to understand that we in America have our own culture and they should make attempts to understand us instead of law enforcement trying to cater to each individual culture. The best way enforcement agencies can do this is to offer opportunities for this to happen via public education. Agencies should also promote "neighborhood watch" type forums which allow other cultures who may live together in neighborhoods to have meetings, sometimes with an officer who works in the area. If some members act as liaisons this can be helpful to cover any gaps in understanding.

There are some things departments can do in the way of basic foreign language training, and pamphlets for citizens.

Criminal justice question...?

So you have some liberal whiny a** CJ professor and this is their way of saying "tell us how law enforcement can be nicer to muslims?"

The problem with this question is basically this, Police officers Do treat every one equally whether they are black white purple green catholic jew baptist from New Jersey or Podunk Tennessee. So figuring out how to be nicer to muslims because some crazy buttwipes killed all those folks on 9/11? There isn't a problem yet is there so why are we trying to fix it?

I'm glad I have my degree already but I really wish I was in your class because I think your professor would sh** his pants once he read my finished essay. Special needs? Are they disabled? Policing is Policing and we arent' going to change police work to cow tow to immigrants or muslims because the rest of the USA outside of DC isn't Obamas dream world, it's reality!
