Detective and prosecutor?

Postby merla15 » Tue Jul 31, 2012 1:02 pm

I got the idea recently on what I should do after high school. I am planning on going to a community college for the first two years and switching over to a college (law school?).

Before I continue, I heard from a friend that to be a private detective you had to have been an actual detective with the police first, so i'm working off this info.

After college (that is if I did get in law school/etc..) I would go to a police academy and enroll to be a detective. If I did get to become a detective, I would stick with it for a while (while also looking into jobs for prosecution). After some time, when I have also found a chance at being a prosecutor, I would quit my detective job and switch to prosecution.

Since I now also would have experience as a detective, I would start out as a private detective and work on my off time as a prosecutor. In this setup, I would be able to get my own evidence for my cases as a prosecutor and also be able to help people out of my detective job during my off time.

Does this all sound possible if I stoke to it, or is it just a dream. And, if you didn't notice from the info, all I want to do is get known criminals their punishment and I don't care about my salary.

P.S. It would also be a big help if you could tell me that what I heard about having to be a government detective before being a private detective is true.

Thanks a ton!!!! Sorry if it's a little long, but its just my great idea (I think :S )
