Let's do the math.The USDA has tallied up about 2.1 million farms in the USA. Under the definition of anyplace with more than $1,000 in agricultural production. The data on the number of farmers from the US Census is useless. That's only people that self-identify as farmers. A large percentage of farmers, more than 50% actually, have some other job during the winter, and identify as that, or as "retired", so YOU CANNOT USEW THE CENSUS DATA for this.So FORGET the census number. The USDA number is far more reliable.Now.The percentage of people self-identifying as "black" is about 13 percent. If blacks made up a equal proportion of farmers, that would be about 270,000 farms. So that's an upper limit.
