Do I deserve to be suspended? and if so for how long also will my school contact my parents to tell them?

last Friday my friends and i were drinking (at lunch) in the back of the mall (which is not on school property) after we were done drinking we went to class two of my friends were completely wasted and managed to get us all caught (there were about 7 of us) one by one we got called down to the office to be talked to by principle i don't know what he said to everyone else but he tried to get as much information out of me as possible he asked who was there who bought it and etc. i told him that i wasnt there when it was bought and that i didnt know anyone there i lied and told him i was there but i didn't drink he said he was gonna ask the other kids if they actually saw me drink one of my best friend who was also drinking backed me up by saying that i didn't take any (he was in a separate room but i amuse it was him who backed me up) so as it stands the principle thinks that i was there but i didnt drink and it was off school property BUT he suspended me anyways is this right.

Yeah, you deserve the suspension. But ONLY because you guys were stupid enough to go back to school afterwards.
But anyway, I hate that schools suspend you for things that happened off campus.
I know that happens when you get into a fight, even though it wasn't at school you'll still get suspended.

Yes he has the right to suspend you... As he can smell it on your breath, I mean have you ever been sober and had a drunk person talk to you? You can generally smell them a mile away. He has the right to suspend you because you were involved in a criminal activity (underage drinking) and you didn't report it, you took part in it.

Don't ever chew gum after drinking!! Gum increases the smell of alcohol. Also you guys are complete idiots for going back. But I agree you shouldn't be suspended, it was off school grounds. And all schools don't have the jurisdiction to control you until you've come to school. Like if I smoke a cig and come to school, of course I'll smell but they have no proof even if they search me.

You better get off the computer right now and tell them. If you wait and the school tells them before you have a chance to tell "your side" of the story... You'll be in some trouble. I'm no stranger to detention. And I learned very quick you gotta fess up to your parents before the school tells them.
And yeah, suspension was the right thing to do. You know what you did was wrong. So go tell your parents and take your punishment and soon it'll be a thing of the past and a lesson learned
