Do warrants for you're arrest go away?

Postby forde » Tue Jan 10, 2012 1:10 pm

I have a friend with at lest one warrant out for there arrest (but I think it's more like 2 in 2 differnt States) there plan is to run from the Cops and at some point the warrants will go away. Is this at all possable? I "think" they are are thinking of the "statute of limitations" but I thout that was only good for crimes that where not yet juged on yet in a cort of law.

One I think is drug trafficking if that helps.

No warrants fro your arrest do not go away. They can also become federal warrants over time.

Do warrants for you're arrest go away?

Arrest warrants expire when the person named in them do.

In other words, they stay in effect until the person is in custody, or is dead. So, tell your friend to choose wisely.

The statute of limitations is the amount of time the state has to charge you with a crime. If your friend has arrest warrants out, they have already been charged, and now there's no time limit.

No, warrants for you're [sic] arrest do not go away.

Your warrant for piss-poor spelling may go away in time though.

You have to remember that the idea behind the Statute of Limitations is allowing the police to stop investigating a crime when there isn't sufficient evidence to prosecute ~ Its not to allow criminals to escape after a certain amount of time.

Some people imagine standing there with a stop watch, and at midnight, they are no longer wanted. Its not the case.

The police can maintain a record of the warrant, any failure to appear, and in this case, crossing State lines. Their intention will be to catch him doing something else, and then they will proceed with the prosecution if they so desire.

I know this probably isn't what your friend wants to hear, but he should turn himself in. That would be his only chance for leniency.
