Do you feel secure a med student and a nursing student takes care of you........

Postby adelphos » Fri Apr 01, 2011 1:34 am

Its very common in hospitals were unlucky patients were turned into rehearsal laboratory rats for Nursing students and medical student. I mean a nursing student will apply injection to you and you will be her 1st time. My sister got infection from from her caesarian operation before because a med student who was assisting a doctor left a scalpel inside her uterus. We know the high risk of medical malpractice with Nursing students and Med students. Do you feel confident when a student is the one that takes care of you instead of a pro?

I know these students need to start somewhere. I just don't want to be the one they practice on first. I have an aversion to pain and suffering. That is terrible what happened to yor sister. For sure, if they are turned loose on patients, they should it should be with the patient's permission and under close supervision by an experienced professional to nothing happens like what happened to your sister.

Its very unfortunate to be the one for them to experiment on. But someone has to be sacrificed in able for them to learn which is a very awful reality.

oh that was bad.should have filed case, you should have sue the medical team who done the operation that's there fault from recounting the medical instruments. I'm a nursing student so i can said it depends on the knowledge and time the student spend practicing in the hospital, i can see students who is not capable enough to have there hospital duties.

are you scared of doing malpractice during your first time? Have a patient make you felt awkward because he dont trust you? I know all doctors and nurses have this very vulnerable stage.

oh yeah, one patient even ask me to not to go back on there room, and many of the will request not to be handle by student nurse, well this scenario always happened to private hospital, but when it comes to public hospital, which lack of man power there's nothing the patient can do even if they don't want to take care by student nurses.

I had seen a public hospital and they dont have real nurses at all, all of them were nursing students. I felt sorry to those patients but they have no choice since the professional nurses leaves the country to work abroad.

I would be afraid.I would worry they make a mistake on me,so I would not feel comfortable at all allowing a med student to give me a shot. What if they don't do it right?I think of getting an affection.

Have you encountered being taken care off by a student nurse or a student doctor in a hospital? Do you have any experience with them?

I have been a nursing student myself, and we (the students) practiced the different techniques on eachother before we were allowed to take care of the patients. Sometimes it was pretty painful when the other students practiced on me, because they had no experience, but neither did I, and I thought that it was a good a idea to practice on eachother at first. When we started taking care of the patients the other nurses were pretty strict, and they always watched the things that we did so that they were able to step in if we were about to make serious mistakes. In the beginning we weren't allowed to practice on the patients without being watched, and if I am a patient I am not really afraid that the nursing students or med students will make serious mistakes, because I know that the professional nurses and doctors are watching them closely. If they are in doubt that the student can do things the right way they won't be allowed to do it alone.
