I wasn't hopeful for Obama in that state, but I'm sure he'll compete there and Montana in 2012 Arizona Senator John McCain won North Dakota by a comfortable margin.North Dakota has been considered a reliably Republican state in the past 40 years, having voted for the Republican presidential candidate of every election since 1968. In 2008, however, polls taken before September surprisingly showed the two candidates, Republican John McCain of Arizona and Democrat Barack Obama of Illinois, neck-to-neck. This changed when Sarah Palin was announced as John McCain's running mate in the beginning of September, as McCain then took a double digit lead in the state until October, when polling once again showed a close race between the two candidates in the Peace Garden State. When the actual 2008 election took place, however, McCain won North Dakota by a safe margin of about eight percentage points, despite the latest polling showing him just one point ahead of rival Barack Obama. Still, the state results were significantly closer than in 2004, where Bush carried the state by a much larger margin of 27%. McCain did well throughout the west and central part of the state, while Obama won several counties in the east and the cities of Fargo and Grand Forks.McCain/Palin: Popular vote: 168,601(53.25%)Obama/Biden: Popular vote: 141,278(44.62%) Sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election_in_North_Dakota,_2008#Statewide_Results mhd 55 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment.
