Do You Think It Is Possible North Dakota Will Vote Obama?

Postby Colwin » Thu Feb 06, 2014 9:58 am

Arizona Senator John McCain won North Dakota by a comfortable margin.North Dakota has been considered a reliably Republican state in the past 40 years, having voted for the Republican presidential candidate of every election since 1968. In 2008, however, polls taken before September surprisingly showed the two candidates, Republican John McCain of Arizona and Democrat Barack Obama of Illinois, neck-to-neck. This changed when Sarah Palin was announced as John McCain's running mate in the beginning of September, as McCain then took a double digit lead in the state until October, when polling once again showed a close race between the two candidates in the Peace Garden State. When the actual 2008 election took place, however, McCain won North Dakota by a safe margin of about eight percentage points, despite the latest polling showing him just one point ahead of rival Barack Obama. Still, the state results were significantly closer than in 2004, where Bush carried the state by a much larger margin of 27%. McCain did well throughout the west and central part of the state, while Obama won several counties in the east and the cities of Fargo and Grand Forks.

I wasn't hopeful for Obama in that state, but I'm sure he'll compete there and Montana in 2012 Arizona Senator John McCain won North Dakota by a comfortable margin.North Dakota has been considered a reliably Republican state in the past 40 years, having voted for the Republican presidential candidate of every election since 1968. Do You Think It Is Possible North Dakota Will Vote Obama?

PamPerdue said: 3 My gut reaction is to say "no", just given its location, but North Dakota has two Democratic Senators. I suspect they really do fancy themselves independent-spirited rather than a truly "red state". But I'll say "No" anyway. Obama pulled his spending from there a few weeks ago, and I really don't know why, but I can only assume it's because his internal polling says it's not worth the trouble. 62 months ago

Do You Think It Is Possible North Dakota Will Vote Obama?

It's possible. the NoDaks are pretty isolated and usually fall for the Bible thumping and flag waving but they aren't stupid and most of 'em that I've met(17 months at Minot AFB) are pretty decent people. A little good sense and decency is about all it takes for Caribou Barbie to trigger the gag reflex.

I dunno Hank - I really don't know. One thing I do know! I am very very grateful for DVRs! yes indeedy! I can record all my fav shows and zip right through all the media rhetoric. I'm so stikin sick of it.OK - sorry - I just had to have that little rant. It's Halloween night and pretty soon I'm hoping I'll be more scared by what comes to my door than what happens in January. LOL
