Do You Think That Bibles, Korans, Etc. Should Be Sold At A Profit?

Since, in the US at least, religious organizations are supposed to be nonprofit(and that pun is NOT intended), should they make a profit on the sale? Who gets the royalties?

Do You Think That Bibles, Korans, Etc. Should Be Sold At A Profit?

everybody has to consume! And I think the publishing homes that put out these books are NOT non-profit organizations...smile.   Numerous churches(I don't know about mosques) will give Bibles away totally free, however, so that is absolutely not creating a profit on them.  That is a loss for them, but is also planned into the spending budget. tuppence 73 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. i think if it is a book about religion it should be given but then bookstores are out for profit. The royalties question is good since the bible is the word of god and he doesn't exactly have a bank account

Yes, they Should. The Publishers and Bookstores need to Get Paid Someone has to pay of the production of these tomes.  Someone has to transport them.  Some entity has to stock and sell them, and they have costs too.  There aren?t any particular proscriptions about selling these works in these works, so yes, they can and should be sold for profit.  Sources: Money Talks   gabrielhusseinnova's Recommendations Holy Bible: King James Version, Complete Amazon List Price: $69.95 Used from: $46.60 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 out of 5(based on 14 reviews)   gabrielhusseinnova's Recommendations The Qur'an(Oxford World's Classics) Amazon List Price: $12.95 Used from: $6.95 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5(based on 22 reviews) Holy Bible: King James Version, Complete Amazon List Price: $69.95 Used from: $46.60 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 out of 5(based on 14 reviews) You can always get these free in many places. gabrielhusseinnova 73 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. Religions are run for profit. The purpose of their being non-profit is not so they are able to spend more on charity or to allow them to exist in a world without money. The power to tax is the power to destroy. Religious institutions are untaxed because the government should not have the ability to destroy religious institutions. They run Non-profit, but they pay the head of the congregation(rabbi, priest, preacher, whatever). In fact, they run as a business, the profits are used to support the employees and further the goals of the business(in this case, to spread the religion).

Yes Considering these non-for-profit organizations do community work I don't see a problem with them selling bibles for profit.  They'll buy a large quantity wholesale from a distributor. The distributor will purchase either the rights to print or the books themselves from a printer.  The printer will have an agreement with the publisher - who is responsible for how royalties are handled. As with Bibles - I imagine that translators were paid for one time work done - although I am sure there are some cases where someone is making a royalty off of an illustration from a children's bible. If the production of Bibles was not a profitable venture then it would never be able to grow. The inability to grow would stagnate the message.   Profit is needed.  People - by purchasing bibles from their churches are subsidizing their churches rather than making money for "Christian Book Stores" Even though I am not a Christian - I STRONGLY recommend buying your Bibles from a local church that you know does community service. This makes sure that you support your local charities..  deleted_user 73 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. Please verify your account to give a compliment.
