Does anyone know how long walmart orientation is?

Postby blaisdell » Tue Nov 22, 2011 5:20 pm

the reason i need to know is, i have to take my son to my sister in laws house and id like to let her know how many hours it will be. plus my husband will have to pick him up from her house after work if i stay later than he works.

if i have to ask walmart i will, but i didnt want to sound like a pest, or that i was trying to rush them.

its not really too big of a deal, i know its gonna last a good while from what ive researched about it online. she will watch him anyway, i just would like to be kind enough to tell her how long its gonna be just to be polite. and so my husband will know what to do as far as picking him up or not.

also, if anyone has this information: does the cbl's take more than one day? do they last all day?
i was hired seasonal for now, but the lady told me that if i showed i was a dependable and good worker they would probably let me stay. have any of you been told this and actually stayed? she was so impressed with me she didnt really even fully interview me. she asked a few problem solving questions, and talked to me. didnt ask me why i wanted to work there, or why i would be good for them. she scheduled me a drug test for yesterday and gave me a job offer. i took the drug test yesterday, i dont do drugs, so i know i passed. im just waiting for the phone call from walmart. cuz they told me friday as long as i passed my drug screen to consider myself hired. and yesterday when they gave me the paper to go take the drug screen she said "take this to them and take your test and hopefully we will see you on wednesday for orientation." i hope all this is really good news, and not them just telling me what i wanna hear!! im really excited about working after being out of work 1 year, cuz iwas pregnant and then had my son.

i thank anyone who answers in advance. i do appreciate it. God Bless. Amber Stoner. :D

Congrats! Yes, you're hired as long as you passed the drug test. Orientation day will be a full day which means 8 hours of orientation with a 1-1.5 hour lunch break (so plan for at least 9.5 hours). CBLs will take multiple days but you will likely get started on them before the end of orientation day.

You're lucky--sounds like you'll be getting started in just enough time to become familiar with your new job as Black Friday approaches. Three years ago on Nov. 22--just 5 days before Thanksgiving--I had my orientation for a cashier position. I'm glad you'll have more time to learn and get comfortable in your job before the complete insanity arrives! :D

So yes, it's completely possible if not very likely that they'll want to keep you long after the holiday season has ended. The manager who interviewed you was right: prove that you are a hard worker who can excel at customer service while still focusing on performing your tasks accurately. Many of us with years under our belts got started as seasonal associates. This is your opportunity--your time to shine!

In my three years at Walmart, I have been able to easily transfer to another store across the country and have worked in many different departments. Walmart has a program that will help me pay for schooling when I go back for an MBA as I hope work my way up to management.

At Walmart, hard work and perseverance is paid off if you manage to keep a cheerful attitude and have open communication with your managers. There is a bit of a learning curve, but I'm confident you can go far if that is your desire.
