Trying to get hired at Walmart they said I'd get mailed something ?

I got an interview last Tuesday which went very well. I'm pretty positive that I did well. They made it seem like I was going to be hired for sure. I just needed to take a drug test and have my background checked out One thing is that I do have something on my record but I informed this to them during the interview. I am currently going through a withheld judgement on an attempted theft. I have not been convicted and just have to not break any laws for a year and my conviction will be dismissed by the judge. I had asked them if this would affect being hired and they said it should be fine since I was not convicted. So when the interview ended they said they'd call me in about a week for orientation. A week has passed and no phone call. So I called and she said my background was still being checked and I will get something in the mail with a number to call which I have yet to receive... My friend who was hired there says this is bad and that I'm most likely not getting hired that they should have already called me for orientation.. I'm a bit confused and worried. I really need this job and was counting on it as I need $400 by July. So I'm confused of what I am getting mailed and if they are really even checking my background still or what's going on?? Anything will be helpful. Thanks

I'm not in HR but have held many jobs... It sounds like either they need more time to process your background check or they decided to not hire you. In the meantime, keep applying at more places! Don't hold yourself down to one company and hope you'll get it.

I do hope whatever happens, you land a job very soon. I understand the whole limbo thing and needing money. Good luck to you.
