Does the Coast Guard have any combat MOS or anything along the lines of law enforcement type of jobs?

I read up on some things but there isn't much info out there on them. The only thing I was able to dig up was a Maritime Safety and Security Team. And Port Security..

The CG is no longer allowed to participate in bud/s, it was just stopped last month. In actuality only 3 Coasties ever went to the training. They belong to the SEALS for 3 years I believe, then they will be able to return to CG service. But that option is no longer a viable one, the program has been cut.

MSST is a billet not a rating. Port Security is a reserve option. BM's are just as trained for a situation as an ME. A GM is just as trained as an SK. The CG is a different set up than any of the other services. You will find there are many benefits in the CG that aren't available to the other services. Such as NOT having to pick your rate prior to going to boot camp. What if there is a rate you have no clue about?? You pick something that you read about, a 2 sentence paragraph on the gocoastguard website. It turns out you hate that job and only wish you could have chosen this other job. But you knew nothing about it. Well that's what happens in the Army or the AF or the Navy... but in the CG you are a non-rate. You get to see the rates, speak to people, shadow petty officers, decide for YOURSELF what you might like to do. Not what school a recruiter can get you into the soonest. Think how much happier you can be deciding for yourself!!! :) Speak to a Coastie, you will find most are happier and stay longer on active duty than most other branches of the military.

Retention is at an all time high. Recruiting is at an all time high. That isn't a coincidence. There is a reason! The CG is smaller than the NYPD. They can afford to be very picky. Yes, their boot camp is in NJ, it is also the 2nd hardest boot camp in the military to the Marines. I have met Marines that are prior service and have joined the CG when their commitment was up with the Corps and they have said the CG boot camp is more intense and in some respects harder than Marine boot camp. The CG is a tough service. I wish you the best of luck. They are some of the finest people I know.

Well the martime law Enforcement have a group called DOG(deployable operations group) and there job is to do boarding partys, counter terrorism, and if need be if there's a threat from the coast they will go out and eleminate that threat if they have to(like if a nuclear missile or device is on a boat and the only way to deal with it is sending armed personal). They are basically a coast guard swat team with lethal capabilities.

Also every year a small amounts of coasties are allowed to go to bud/s and attempt to be a seal. It's odd though that for in that time they are part of the navy instead of the coast guard. After their time is up they are returned to the coast guard or can remain seals in the navy.

Technically the entire branch is Law Enforcement. They are terrible though with letting people know about the jobs they have. You won't find any job info on their site because they make you go through a prescreening application before they will even talk hardly at all to you. It's sad really. If they would change their style they would get alot more people. Alot require people to be E-3 or E-4 in order to submit an request for those jobs. Before that though you at the mercy of the USCG and they will put you where they want for the first year or two. Boarding vessels in harbors, bays, etc. you must be an E-4 I believe. I know with HITRON you have to be E-4.

One does not find a great deal about the USCG but they do or are in some kind of law really. All along our coast lines they are the guardians so to speak. Right now since areas such as down around the TX board were so much of the drug cartel is working trying to bring drugs into this country. They also help control many of the lighthouse these days.I have seen were there boot camp( if you will) is in NJ and they get paid just like any of the other branches of the service. Good luck in your quest.
