There are an estimated 300 million guns that are currently held by private citizens. If guns were made illegal there is a sizable group that will refuse to give them up, I belong to that group.

300 million is essentially an infinite supply of firearms for criminals.

There are even more weapons in Eastern Europe left behind by the collapse of the USSR. Most of these guns end up in the Middle East. An AK 47 fetches $10 and an AR style rifle $15. In the USA these guns are worth $10,000 and up. Where do you think the gun runners would sell them if there was a sudden vacuum in legal weapons. These weapons are the real thing; fully automatic machine gun, not the semi automatic lookalikes for sale in the USA.

A gun ban would leave innocents defenseless but the bad guys would remain armed. The violent crime rate would soar, just like it did during every recent gun ban in every place it was tried.

Gun bans are laws that cannot be enforced. I realized the "subtlety" of your "humor" but I felt it was best to give you the information that you so desperately appear to need.

You know, of course that laws aren't there to make people good, they are there to spell out what the punishment is for doing wrong, and give a society a way to get the bad guys put away.

We don't ban innocent people from getting married to stop spousal abuse do we?

We don't ban innocent people from getting behind the wheel to stop speeding do we?

So why would you suggest we ban guns to stop shootings?

Agreed, stop funding law enforcement and make murder legal. When that happens my EX better be on a flight.
