Dual Graphics Card Issue?

Postby warton26 » Thu May 17, 2012 4:18 am

I have a Satellite A665D-S6082 with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 and 4200 graphics cards. I wanted to stop the switching to the 4200 card while on battery power and didn't realize that you could accomplish that via the graphics tool so I disabled the 4200 in the device manager.

Since I've done that I've had issues with the graphics. I see both of them listed in device manager but with the error sign on their icon and the following error in their properties:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I've downloaded the driver from Toshiba several times and it completes the loading process but with an error and can't load the driver.

I've run dxdiag and it doesn't detect any information on the cards. The HDMI has stopped functioning as well.

Not sure if I need to uninstall the drivers before reinstalling but don't want to cause any more damage than I already have.

Don't know what more info I can provide but hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Did you set the driver once you have loaded it? You need to do that, and if your using ANYTHING to help with the graphic card look it up. Have Windows search it, was it working before?

are you deleting the old driver first then installing the new one? if not you should. or you can go to the device manager. find the gpu and roll back the driver. that should work. second. i have never heard of AMD having dual cards like that before. two different cards. are you sure its not one card and the other is onboard. thats why it switches?
QUICK FIX- go to system restore and restore you computer to the day before you disabled the 4200. im 99% sure that will work.
