Switch to Nvidia 225M Graphics Card Dell Inspiron N7110?

Postby demarco » Mon Apr 30, 2012 4:02 pm

People have told me I have a nvidia 225M graphics card and a crappy Intel HD graphics card on my laptop. It's using the default Intel card but I need the nvidia card for most of my gaming. I can't seem to find a way to switch to it though. Its not on my device manager list and when I try to download an update for that card on the nvidia site, it says I don't have it. Many reviews for the Dell Inspiron N7110 say that it has both cards. Is there a simple way to switch which card I am using? I am sure it has it. I don't have any programs like Nvidia Optimus or something like that people say I am supposed to use. When I right click on the desktop a setting for graphics properties is there, but when I click on it, it shows the Intel card settings. HELP PLEASE!

Specs:
Win7 64 bit
Intel i5-2450 2.50 GHz
6.00 RAM

You have to disable the default on-board intel virtual video driver first before using any other video cards you want to use for gaming,3d design, etc.

Make sure you have the Nvidia video drivers from Dell, here- http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19 ("Video" at the bottom of the list).
If the Nvidia drivers are installed you should be able to access the Nvidia Control Panel from the right-click menu from your desktop. In the Nvidia Control Panel there should be an option to select the specific game or program then your prefered default GPU from the manage 3d settings tab
