Dear Sir

My name is M.Faisal Nazir and i am working as a flight dispatcher.

i have a question regarding DVOR,my question is,if a station has only VOR/DME approach facility, and for some reason DVOR ident is not available, can a pilot approach on VOR/DME or not?

for example,VGEG(Chittagong) issues a notam that DVOR ident "CTG" remain off the air due technical reasons,in this condition, can a pilot approch on VOR or not,in my oppinion, yes, because VOR is working normal but ident is not?am i right?

please clearify this thing.

A0172/10 NOTAMR A0170/10

A) VGEG

B) 1006160600

C) 1006170600 EST

E) 113.4 MHZ DVOR IDENT 'CTG' REMAIN OFF THE AIR DUE TECR

Regards

Faisal,Doha Qatar.

Hi, Faisal. In the US, we don't use DVOR, so I'm not quite sure on the difference in approaches between DVOR and VOR. However, in the US, if a radio facility does not transmit an ident, then the radio information is unusable. For example, if a glideslope goes off the air, the ILS system can only be used as a localizer. Is there a DVOR and a VOR at VGEG? Are there two different approaches, one for VOR and one for DVOR? I'm sorry to ask, but I'm not familiar with that system.

I hope this helps, at least a little!

Thank you very much,

Chris
