Although not a traditional testing organization... ...like Consumer Reports, you might check out the Kyle David Miller Foundation. It was set up by a family that lost their son in a car accident when his booster seat/ seatbelt combination failed. They recommend certain seats that they also sell, so you can see they might not be entirely free from bias. However, the ones they suggest are Britax, Sunshine Kids, Safeguard and Recaro car seats as being the best. And they do look very good, with a 5 point harness, a hard shell, cup holders(!), headrest and so on.For example, the Britax Frontier Combination Booster Seat offers "...True Side Impact Protection that grows with your child. The Britax Frontier is the highest forward-facing 5-point harness weight capacity seat in the industry featuring True Side Impact Protection(TSIP), a non-rethread harness and headrest adjustment. The Britax Frontier is also equipped with retractable cup-holders...The Forward Facing 5-point harness can accomodate children from 25-80 pounds using the top tether and can be converted to a 40-100 pound belt positioning booster seat. The Britax Frontier is LATCH and Versa Tether equipped."In other words, it is in essence a large car seat designed for kids up to 85 to 100 pounds. The site they sell through is HipMonkey, which is supposedly a mom-run, safety-oriented site. They offer 8 different seats, but not all accomodate as large a child. There are also links to 2 YouTube videos on the subject on foundation's home page. There really isn't anything else quite like the Consumer Union(which is the organization that produces Consumer Reports). Perhaps the closest is the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, but they don't test a lot of things, not like the CU.I hope this helps!
