Family Cemetery In Alabama

Discuss anything to do with property law - buying, selling property

Family Cemetery In Alabama

Postby Garton » Fri Jun 06, 2014 12:54 am

We live in Georgia but have purchased my husband's "old family home place" in Alabama consisting of around 400 acres.  We would like to establish a family cemetery on the property. What do we need to do?

Family Cemetery In Alabama

How wonderful. Alabama laws don't say you can and don't say you can't. So assume that you can. With that much acreage, I'm guessing it well outside the village or city limits and no zoning to worry about. In that case, draw a map of the land showing where the family burial ground will be and pay to have it recorded with the deed. That will let future land-owners know that it's there on purpose, not some secret way to do away with Granny. A good practice is 150 ft. from a water supply and 25 ft. from a power line or neighbor's boundary. If you e-mail me directly, I can send you the AL chapter from my book on how to bypass the industry entirely. [email protected]
