Feces Identification

Postby Meilyg » Sun Jun 15, 2014 5:39 am

unknown feces

I live in Northern Va and my 11 yr old son found some poop on our back deck and wanted to know what it had come from.  There is a silver maple above the deck and an overhang from our roof.  They seem to appear after dark maybe 5-6 droppings not in a pile. We have wooded areas around us. Our yard is fenced on 3 sides.  I hopefully have attached a photo. Thank you for your time. Holly

Feces Identification

Postby Bogdan » Wed Jun 25, 2014 12:45 pm

Hello Holly,

After referring to several reference books, I'm not finding any dropping illustrations that even come close to what you have pictured. I do know one thing, it does not appear to be a rat dropping. As I am not familiar with the wildlife in your area I can't be of much help there. I would suggest you contact a pest professional that deals with wildlife and show them the droppings. Most companies don't charge to simply take a quick look. They will either be able to put your mind at ease of let you know if this night visitor is something to worry about hanging around the yard.

Sorry I could not be much more help myself, but hopefully I have sent you in the right direction for a more concrete answer.

I'd be interested to know what it is if you wish to follow up with me when you find out.
