Financial Aid suspension!? Can you Help?

Postby claudius » Tue Jan 10, 2012 5:11 pm

Would you read my letter and tell me what you think? or if you see any mistakes i need to fix, or how i can improve it. thanks!

I’m requesting to appeal the suspension of my financial aid. During my time at Dixie State College I have received some low grades due to my lack of attendance. My problem was that I would have to miss classes, and eventually I would get so far behind in my work that I would see no way out of my predicament and therefore I would stop attending the classes altogether. My reason for missing the classes initially was because of problems with not having transportation. I was naïve and very irresponsible to not assume the consequences of my actions. I regret not trying harder to find the means to attend class, and for wasting the financial aid that had been given to me in the past. I also regret sticking to the classes till the end, even if I had gotten so far behind.
In the future I plan to attend every class so that I do not fall behind. I now have a car making it very possible and easy for me to get to every class. I now know that attendance is vital for success and I plan to try a lot harder to attend my classes regardless of sudden setbacks that may befall me. I know I have the ability to do well in my classes because in the past I have done well in classes that I have stuck through to the end and attended regularly.
I apologize for wasting this time and money, and I hope to be reinstated for financial aid. I will do my best to realize my academic responsibility and do whatever it takes to complete my credit hours and show satisfactory progress.
Thank you for your time,
Maycee Robinson

Financial Aid suspension!? Can you Help?

I feel you've hit all the right things in this letter. You've shown an awareness of what happened, and what you could have done to resolve the issue. You've shown that the issues that caused you to fail are behind you.

This bit is not clearly written: "I also regret sticking to the classes till the end, even if I had gotten so far behind." What you should probably say is that you now realize that you should have dropped or withdrawn from those classes, or at least tried to work with your professors and your advisor during this time.

I can't promise that you'll have your aid reinstated, but you've done all you can with this letter.
