Foreigner not allowed in the US if he/she was involved in drug trafficking?

Postby deangelo51 » Sat Dec 17, 2011 11:28 am

So my brother was caught by the law enforcement being involved in some kind of drug trafficking. He was sentenced to 1 year in prison and this coming September he will be released. Us family wanted to go on a bonding trip to Miami or Las Vegas when he’s release but my dad said that because of his passed, FOREVER will he be on some kind of blacklist. Thus he may NEVER set foot in America. I couldn’t believe it! Never have I heard of this before but my dad insisted!

Is this true? I really want someone with some kind of knowledge to answer me.

His nationality is Dutch if it helps.

Thanks

PS: My brother is very nice guy! Never was he arrested before and he was forced into participating in this drug trafficking thing. Our whole family was shocked and disappointed. At first he was sentenced to 3 years, but the lawyer defended him good (him being a student and all) and his sentencing was reduced to 1 year! This is truly saddening.

If he was convicted of a felony, or what would be a felony in the US, he will not be allowed entry to the US.

In a period of time (I think it is currently 10 years but you will need to confirm later) he will be allowed to petition for entry if he has had no other charges against him.

Your family is going to have to find another place to reconnect.

I can think of very few countries that allow people to enter who have been convicted of trafficking drugs. Because there's that whole not wanting a drug trafficker to traffic drugs into your own country. I bet if you look there's a similar restriction for the Schengen area. Start looking at Aruba or the Netherlands Antilles for a place to meet.

I don't doubt that your brother is a nice guy but that's pretty irrelevant if he's trafficking drugs.
