So, today I took a firearms class in order to renew one of my concealed carry licenses. The instructor was a guy of about 35 or so who had a prosthetic leg courtesy of an IED in Afghanistan. He's a very cool guy and as the class was small we were all chatting quite a bit.
The instructor reveals that he volunteers lots of time for the Wounded Warrior Project and often goes to the VA hospital to visit and encourage the guys coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan with parts missing.
One of the other students asked him what kind of stuff they do, and his *FIRST* answer was "The biggest thing we do is to help the guys open a bank account that is in their name only." When asked why by the same student, he said "Well, when these guys come back injured they get a huge chunk of tax free money. I got $125K for my leg. Anyway, over HALF these guys wives empty the account and file for divorce unless we help them to put it in a secure account."
I have to admit, this shocked even me
