GED holders chance at enlistment ?

Postby winfrid12 » Fri Jul 27, 2012 9:17 am

First a little insight for anyone that may try to bash me for having a GED.
I had to dropout of highschool last year to help my father pay the bills. Medical reasons.
I completed 3 years of highschool and almost made my senior graduation. But we where in danger of losing our home and his treatment.
This was priority, and I had to help.
Military has been my definite career choice since middle school and I am well prepared.
I scored an 84 on my asvab when I took it with a Marine Corps recruiter the last few months I was in school. This qualified me for any job in the Corps I was told.
But my question is, now that I have a GED and no diploma, with my asvab scores
No medical issues at all
No previous law interactions
No mental issues
And well physical shape.
Are my chances decent if I spoke to an army recruiter tomorrow to try and take the plunge for a option 40 contract?

zero for an Option 40. that requires a HS diploma. the chances of getting in at all with just a GED is extremely low no matter what.. only one or 2 a month are allowed.

and FTR.. there are plenty of other kids who had sick relatives at home, stayed in school and worked part time. and still graduated.

Ged will require some college credits, then you'll be fine.
