Getting Signed Out Of Special ED?

Postby edmondo93 » Thu Jul 26, 2012 2:49 pm

Alright so I plan on getting signed out of special ED this up coming school year. Im doing this because I feel as my education is being destroyed. I would say im a year behind cause of all of these classes. I also got put into an Alternative School. Ive been in one sence 7th grade. Im going into my sophmore year now "10th grade." I got put in an Alternative School because of my obnoxious behavior and fighting. I have learned from my mistakes though when I first got arrested for aggravated assault in 8th grade. I don't completly resent my arrest as it was what opened my eyes and made me way more aware of my actions. Since that day I got arrested though, I have lost my "Short Temper" and "Anger Management Problems" I have not gotten into a fight sence then. Anyways I just thought I should share my story and ask for advice and on how to actually start the process on getting out. Also my mom supports me 100 percent, as she has seen my behavior change dramastically for the best. After I get out of Special ED I plan on working hard and going to college and hopefully pursing my dream as an Eletrical Engineer. The reason I say hopefully is because I migrated here from Mexico at the age of two, and as I see it you need to be a citizen for a lot of great jobs out there. So if you gentlemen and ladies have an opinion or advice on that, please do speak up. Thank you for your time. If you also want to reach me for further details heres my email. Well, you haven't spelled "since" correctly, but oh well.

To get out of the Sp Ed program, you will need to be reassessed. Your mother should ask for this as soon as possible to get the ball rolling. If you are deemed to no longer need the services, there will be an IEP meeting and you can be terminated from the program that way. In the meantime, study all you can. You can do more than what your school program is and would greatly benefit from it. Most notably, read a lot of books! Your spelling and grammar really aren't where they should be, so read as much as you can. If you're interested in EE, bone up on math and science of course.

if your parent doesn't want you in special ed, she just has to revoke permission and you are out.

you should try to transition....

get placed in all regular classes...if you have a study period..maybe go to a special ed study class...have accommodations such as what you can do if you feel like you will lose control...

if all goes well, for the following year don't even have that

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE REASSESSED......

You can provide input at your annual IEP meeting. Your parents and teachers attend this to plan the services which help you.

But it is still up to the school and your parents if somebody under 18 can get signed out of special education. You are not yet an adult under law.

Special Education is a service provided to you. If you no longer wish the service and your mother agrees, request a meeting and say you no longer wish the service. The best practice is to transition slowly out of the service. Your education is not being destroyed by this service. You set the pace. You and your parent may request additional classes that you think you will be able to handle. Then you have to do the work to back up any requests. Good luck and continued success in making your changes.
