I have just filed a U.S. Patent Application and would like to get coverage in Europe and Japan

You have your patent attorney file the necessary PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) papers, in the US receiving office, to reserve your rights to later file national patent applications in any countries you select on the application.

There is no such thing a an "International Patent". You need to apply for a patent in each individual country in that country's official language.

You go to the patent office of each nation and file the application. Europe, by the way, is a continent, not a nation.
