How do I get a trademark/copyright on a new online buisness?

Postby shen86 » Thu Mar 31, 2011 5:39 am

I have a idea on a new business that would be all online and I need to make sure I protect my idea from others until I can get it up and running. I am not sure if I do a copyright, trademark, or patent. Can I fully protect the idea with one of those, and does anybody know a good attorney that could help me with this? I am located in Chicago and it would be good to work with a local attorney, but I don't mind if I have to travel to get in touch with the best in the business. To sum it up I need to know which legal avenue is best for my particular company, and any suggestions on who wouldbe best in helping me getting this done. Thanks for the assistance

You don't need an attorney to file a copyright or trademark. Here are a couple of links which will help you out.

Go to the website for the patent & trademark office, pay the fee, and file it. It costs about $350. It's pretty darned easy to do. Just google US Patent Office.
