How do i report a scam and fraud?

Postby otis » Wed May 30, 2012 5:06 pm

I have been seeing someone online, that I thought was a woman. Unfortunately, I have no way of proving that she is, but I do have her email accounts: [email protected] and [email protected] She came online last night and wanted me to cancel my yahoo account, which was [email protected] When I asked her about this, she told me that someone had tried to hack into her account and that she suspected they would try to hack mine, since I was one of her contacts. I deleted the account and opened a new one. [email protected] I will be deleting this one, too; once I hear back from you. This was the name she picked for me to use. Anyway, I have been sending her money for about a year now. It's almost $5000 in cash, that she has received under false pretenses. She told me her parents were killed in a car accident, and wanted me to help pay for the release of her dad's estate and money. This is where the $5000 supposedly went. But, her story keeps changing and now she wants more money, to send to a barrister in Tennessee. She said, he will get her money released to her. I feel so stupid, because I trusted her or him, at this point, I don't know if she is a woman or a man. I also gave her my bank info, so I had to change everything to protect myself. She also had access to my hotmail account, and tried to block me from being able to use it. Little did she know, I was too smart for such a thing to happen. I quickly gained access to my account and changed everything that I could, to prevent her from doing this again. Anyway, she or he had started composing a draft when I stopped them from hacking into my account. Here is what they were trying to send, when I got my account back:

Hey girl, I want you to know that i have been in trouble the cops came to my house this night to arrest me for my online activities i am doing, just noticed they block my yahoo account,i tried to explain to them but they said they are coming back in the morning all i want to do now is just after tomorrow i will try and go to my friend house but please and please do not email me or text me on my phone for now i will give you fed back before weekend,if you do text me that means am in trouble but i think they are locking me up in the jail in the morning,so i will email you by the weekend,do not contact me back now, pray for me I love you, Mary..

This is what they had typed, before I got my account back. They were using my email account to correspond with each other. It sounds like the law enforcement, are about to take them to jail, so maybe this will be the end of their scams, for now. I hope so. I have her address, too. That is, if it's really hers. At this point I'm not really sure, but here it is: Mary Carney, 101 Milligan Road, Sherwood, Michigan 49089. I also have the phone number she gave me to text her on. It's: (260) 355-7406. She told me I couldn't call her on it, but I could text her if I wanted to. I have pictures that she sent me, if you need them, but like I said, at this point I don't know what to believe about her, anymore. Unfortunately, I got mad, when I realized what she was doing, and I sent her an email with some choice words, that I'm not proud of. I know you have strict policies on this type of conduct, so if you are forced to cancel my account, for what I said, then I will accept whatever the consequences are. My main purpose for doing all of this, is to keep someone else from being scammed, like I have been. My yahoo account is [email protected] I can't wait to delete that, because I don't want her name anywhere on my account. Thank you for your time, and please let me know what I should do? Sincerely, Jeff Poyadou

How do i report a scam and fraud?

I'm not even going to read your whole question. You need to go to the police. You were a fool to send money to someone you "met" online. And we don't have "barristers" in Tennessee. That is a British term. Your love is probably sitting in a computer cafe in Hong Kong.

How do i report a scam and fraud?

Sorry to read that you lost money to a scammer running a scam but happy that you found this site to post your story.

Thanks for posting up the information on that scammer.

Making a scammer's scam googlable on every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find is a great way to slow that scammer down when a suspicious potential victim goes looking for information, finds your post containing the name the scammer is using, his email address, phone number and the emails themselves and then that potential victim does not become a scam victim because you took the time "get the word out".

Thanks!!

Wasting a scammer's time legally and safely is called "scambaiting". If you google that word, you will find sites where you can read scambaits, post up the emails and email addresses of scammers, post up a fake website, read up on how to alert a hosting company that they are hosting a fake website, ask questions and learn all about the hobby of scambaiting.

Since that scammer intended to steal your money, he did not giving you his real life information. All you have is one of his fake names, one of his free email addresses, one of his fake stories and one of his paid-for-in-cash cell phone numbers. None of information is going to help your local law enforcement agency track down that anonymous scammer sitting in a cyber cafe half way around the world from you.

How do i report a scam and fraud?

Postby pete » Wed May 30, 2012 5:19 pm

You go to your local police station with copies of all emails and you file a police report against this person

Why would you send money to a person you have never met? Especially $5000?
