How do i report an unethical lawfirm to ohio state bar association?

Postby banys » Fri Oct 28, 2011 2:53 pm

I hired a lawyer to file bankruptcy they never contacted me more than twice during a 9 month period every time I would call to see how my case was being handled they would tell me i needed to turn in more documents. However I had already turned them in 3 times they had lost my documents so now all of my documents are floating around with all of my personal information on them. So I fired them and hired another attorney. And the first law frim is telling me I am not do A refund I paid them $1300 for what? They did nothing for me other than loose my documents. How do I tur them in?

If the law firm can show billable hours (and they will be able to), there is no ethical issue here. You weren't happy with their work, that is fine, but the work they did is still billable.

Do you actually understand what unethical means? At most, you might be showing a law firm which was incompetent. That is entirely different than unethical. Still worthy of sanction perhaps, but not an ethical issue at all.

I have found in almost all case where this sort of dispute occurs the fault lies in the client, not the firm. Law firms do not lose documents often, certainly not three times. At most, their fault lies in not ensuring that the client understands his role properly.

the fault is not in the client if I had of reviewed the comments from other clients I would of never hired them I guess live and learn HOWEVER my documents were lost THREE times that is why I fired them. I'm not seeing any work that they have done. They can't find my documents to send to me.

The bar association is an association, not a licensing agency. In Ohio, lawyers are licensed by the "Supreme Court of Ohio. If you wish to make a complaint, call the Supreme Court and ask the clerk who answers where to send a complaint. The number is in the phone book.
