How do you avoid points on you license if you want to pay a traffic ticket without going to court?

Postby edin » Tue Apr 05, 2011 11:32 pm

I received a wreckless driving ticket travel through Virginia. The officer said I was going 82 in a 70. I called up the officer and asked him if he could lower the ticket for me since I was prior law enforcement myself. I also told him the car I was driving wasn't mine and I didn't realize how fast I was going and when I checked my speed earilier I was traveling 76 mph. He told me it was out of his hands and that I should contact the common wealths attorney for Prince Georges, Va. I am a native Va resident now living in S.C. I don't mind paying the ticket I just don't want the points on my SC license. Does anyone have any advice? (serious answers only please)

Vinny, considering the fact that you were in law enforcement I'm surprised that you don't know that the points you get are directly related to the violation - not the manner in which you pay the fine. Also, I am thinking that the fact that the car you were driving wasn't yours and that you didn't realize how fast you were going is immaterial. Did it not have a speedometer? Ignorance isn't a valid defense. Pay the fine and watch your speed. Eventually the points will drop off your record. If you have other points on your record maybe the time has come for you to consider driving more carefully & think about the consequences of your actions.

NO lawyer on your side? THEN take your lumps & be resigned to higher insurance...
