The talking to every lawyer that you can game is an old Family Law trick. You can beat it. When I was in private practice, I learned about this trick in a seminar. If X wants to do or file something in a Family Law case, X will go around and seek counsel from every lawyer in an area that handled family cases, thereby creating a conflict of interest. Here is the link to Martindale Hubell, which is the oldest, msot respected lawyer locating outfit around. http://www.martindale.com/ Start calling NM lawyers who take family cases. I doubt seriously that your ex actually contacted every lawyer in NM who might possibly take your case. So, odds will favor you finding someone. Even if your ex is a true fanatic, and contacted evey lawyer in New Mexico, there is a flaw in the system. It lists lawyers by where they office. This is important because NM has a long border with Texas, Arizona and Colorado. It isn't at all unusual for lawyers who practice on one side of a state line to be licensed in both states. So, eventually you'll find a lawyer. Another approach would be to have a California lawyer make arrangements with a NM lawyer to assist him or her appear pro hac vice, which means the out of state lawyer can appear in the other state's courts just for that case. Most states will allow this, so that would be another option.
