How does one quit their job?

Postby bean » Thu Jul 26, 2012 5:16 am

I was looking for a light, part-time job but the job that I recently landed has me coming in literally seven days a week because I'm 'in training'. But I don't want to deal with all the stress, and they violate the State Dept. of Labor laws, and I have no time to myself so I was just thinking of quitting. Do I need to give them a quitting notice 2 weeks prior, or can I just quit because I've only been there for like 2-3 weeks..

How does one quit their job?

DO NOT QUIT UNTIL YOU FOUND ANOTHER JOB !!!! This is the biggest mistake people do because they get stuck in a worse place than when they were working. take a week or two to make calls and send emails to apply for other jobs. take half a day or one full day off work to do that if you can focus on sending out 30 leads in one day. Once you found a better job with better pay and conditions, quit your job. if you are unsure, you can start part time at the new job and then just tell your old job something changed in your family and you can only work part time with them now. Then you can pick whichever works better for you. Don't feel bad for leaving, companies hire and fire people all the time without thinking twice so theres no reason you shouldnt quit your job when you want to and are ready to.

ps: former employers are the best sources of references when you apply to jobs, you cant use your current employer this time thru so you have to find other references. It would be wise not to tell your employer you got another job but instead blame it on family emergency and say it's a very personal matter and you'd rather not discuss it (like needing to make more money or have less stress). Leave your current boss in a nice friendly way and do something extra nice like give em a go-away gift or do something good for the company and it will pay off in the future.

Completely up to you. its more respectable to put in a two week notice but definitely not required. I hated my last job and i put in my two week notice but didnt work the full two weeks. If you can manage to do the two weeks i would, it will look better for you if a future employer contacts them for a reference. i would try talking to them about the problem first though and see if they can change your schedule..ya never know :)

I SERIOUSLY KNOW HOW YOU FEEL! are you a teen? cause i am and my job has me working waaay too much! i wanted PART TIME and they are giving me a full time job! im stressing out way too much! i have no time for anything and i cant do any sports that i love to do. honestly, i would try to stay a little bit longer so it looks better when you apply for a different job. like im a seasonal worker and after my season i am done. when you apply for a new job, apply somewhere that doesnt get busy cause then they wont need you as much.
