How long before I can dispose of property left by someone who used to live with me?

A relative was living with me but he's a junkie and was stealing from me so I kicked him out. He came by a week later to collect some belongings and said he'll be back later to get the rest. That was almost 3 weeks ago. He doesn't have a phone and no one knows where he lives. He left his bed, some clothes and a broken dresser. I looked into abandoned property laws for my state (NM), but all I could find were landlord guidelines. For the most part, it looks like I have to mail a 30 day notice, but again, I don't know where he is. I was thinking of just mailing it to my own address and hope he had the sense to have his mail forwarded to wherever he is now. If it just comes back to me, then when can I legally throw away his things?
