How long does a tenant have to move out after they break a lease?

My flatmate broke a fixed term lease (my parents own the apartment). My parents said it was fine for him to move out as long as he found a replacement tenant. He didn't even try look, so I did and managed to find a replacement tenant. Now he's saying he won't move out for another week and a half where as the replacement tenant wants to move in earlier than that. How long does the current tenant who broke the lease have to move out? Is there any law stating the required number of days until he has to move out?

You shouldn't have got involved.
It's his choice about when he moves out. If there is no new tenant, he still pays.
