How Long Is Just A Manufacturer Drug-Patent In America?

How Long Is Just A Manufacturer Drug-Patent In America?

Postby wesley64 » Fri Dec 20, 2013 10:36 am

Right now I saw a Television advertisement for the drug Celebrex. One thing that was described caught my ear: that Celebrex has-been readily available for a decade. I was shocked by this, considering that I regarded as medicine patents were seven or eight years or so. I comprehend Celebrex hasn't had any "adjusting" to the drug or dose, just how other brand-name medicines sometimes do proper ahead of they go off-patent(such as Prozac Weekly, which conveniently arrived on the scene proper before the basic for frequent Prozac premiered.) So how significantly longer can Celebrex be below patent in america?Cheers,KatherinePS. Know that every person who recommends me to seek advice from my physician can get a single-star, whether or not it's in an answer!! ) I am not in search of healthcare information about the drug Celebrex, merely about the drugis patent.Oh, and you *can* signal your responses, if you choose -- I market it --but it is totally as much as you. :)

How Long Is A Brand Drug Patent In The Us?

Postby Cuithbrig » Sat Feb 01, 2014 10:57 pm

Most likely some time in 2014 In the US, drug patent lasts 20 years by law, but, since a patent is usually applied for before clinical trials, the actual life of protection for an on-the-market drug varies a lot, some drugs have protection for as short as 7 years, some could be 12 years or even longer.   In the case of Celebrex, its first patent expires at in May 2014, so that is the earliest any generic for it may be sold. But I would not count on it yet, more often than not, there might be issues come up to extend the protection period. Pfizer would try its best.   Above is the summary I wrote. For more details, please visit:   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_drug http://arthritis.emedtv.com/celebrex/generic-celebrex.html   Hope I have helped.   boxing Sources: Some research on the web   boxing's Recommendations Generic Alternatives to Prescription Drugs: Your Guide to Buying Effective Drugs at Cost-Saving Prices Amazon List Price: $7.99 Used from: $0.03 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 out of 5(based on 1 reviews) boxing 59 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. One which expires May 30, 2014 and a second which expires August 14, 2018
