How Much Will The Moving Costs Be For A 5 Bedroom House -- Very Local Move?

Postby Daith » Mon Jan 20, 2014 1:13 am

hourly for our movers, which gave us a little more control. We moved about 30 miles, not "VERY LOCAL" but still easily within the state, and we paid about $800, plus throwing in $50 as a tip for the guys. There were three movers and a truck included in the deal. Moving is all about time and effort. If you have several flights of stairs, or a grand piano, it will cost more. If you pack poorly, it takes longer, and it will cost more. If they walk in and your stuff is stacked by the door, the furniture is already disassembled, and you're moving the toaster and dishes yourself in your trunk, three guys can load a truck in just a few hours. Our rate was $80 an hour, and our move took 10 hours. Get an hourly rate if you really want to keep costs down, and do everything in your power to make sure they don't spend a moment too long on something you could do yourself. Be warned, though, that if you estimate poorly you could pay more this way.

How Much Will The Moving Costs Be For A 5 Bedroom House -- Very Local Move?

Prices differ from city to city, and season to season.  Summer time is most popular because parents don't like to force their kids to change schools mid-semester.  For my last move, I found the movers online.  Their process involved me listing the number and type of items to be moved on their web page, and they called me with an estimate.  If they have to box up your kitchen items, wardrobe, and kids toys, the price will be a lot higher.  You should always over estimate the items you plan to move when giving them your details for an estimate.  You always have more stuff than you think, and having more than you estimated gives them the chance to jack up the price later, since the original number was just an estimate.  I can't speak for moving prices in Seattle, but depending on how much stuff you have, I estimate it will take 1 large truck and 3 men a full 8 hours to load, move, and unload, and that is if everything is already boxed and ready to go.  I think you can expect between $800 and $1200.  And ask about their tipping policy.  Some forbid it and some expect it.  Also ask about their breakage policy/insurance/bonding.  If they drop your 5 year old TV, to they buy you a new one, or pay you the depreciated value.  I hope this helps.

How Much Will The Moving Costs Be For A 5 Bedroom House -- Very Local Move?

You can get a cost estimate by calling a moving company or filling out a page like this:http://homepages.moving.com/Moving_and_Planning/But a 5 bedroom house is going to be pretty expensive. The only time I hired movers for a local move it cost me about $300, but that was a one-bedroom apartment. For a 5 bedroom house with stairs I imagine, I'd expect it would run you no less than $2,000 - but that's just a guess. I found this very good comment from someone who used to work for a mover and they explain what the rate would likely be:Because yours is a localmove the weight isn't how your move is rated. It is based on an hourlyrate. Generally you can get a better rate mid-week, mid-month. This iswhen the moving company will most likely not be busy, and the best chanceyou'll have of getting a crew that isn't worn out from working their buttsoff. Most people move in the last week-end of the month. This makes itvery easy for the moving company to get a much higher rate. You canprobably expect to pay $50.00 to $65.00 an hour for 2 men, a truck and allthe necessary equipment. The time begins once you've signed the contractand the time ends once they've unloaded the last piece of furniture. Thedriving time between the homes will be doubled. Meaning that if it takesthem 15 minutes to drive across town to your new home, then you'll becharged 30 minutes. ****For such a large house, I'd imagine it would take at least a full day, possibly two, to pack everything up and load it on the truck. So it won't be cheap. But I would urge you to get an estimate, preferably a binding estimate, before picking a company. Someone will actually come out, take a look at your house, take an inventory and give you a pretty good idea how much it will really cost.Good luck!!!

Local move prices are usually based on the size of the truck, the number of men, and do they pack as well as load Prices differ from city to city, and season to season. Google Map View Larger Map Manimal 81 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment.
